PRIMITIVE MAN Release NSFW Video For ‘Victim’; New Album ‘Caustic’ Released October 6th Via Relapse Records

Denver nihilists PRIMITIVE MAN release the official video for “Victim” off the band’s impending second full-length album, Caustic.

Caustic is set for release on October 6th on CD, 2xLP, cassette, and digital formats via Relapse Records. Physical packages and digital orders are available via HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Caustic marks PRIMITIVE MAN‘s second full-length offering of soul-crushing, blackened doom and noise-ridden claustrophobia. Recorded and produced at Flatline Audio by Dave Otero (Cobalt, Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation et al), Caustic is twelve songs and over seventy-five minutes of bloodcurdling howls, abysmal tones, and dense, unsettling feedback spewing forth a cesspool of utter misery. With lyrical themes ranging from political corruption, personal struggle, and the crumbling social climate facing the world today, Caustic serves as a cataclysmic soundtrack for a world gone awry.

PRIMITIVE MAN‘s music matches its name: a savage, sparse mix of death metal, blackened noise, and doom. The three-piece was formed in February of 2012 by Ethan Lee McCarthy and Jonathan Campos (all current and former members of Vermin Womb, Withered, Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire, Death Of Self, and Reproacher).

In October of 2012, the band recorded their debut LP Scorn at Flatline Audio with Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Cobalt, Catheter, Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire). Scorn was released as a collaboration between Throatruiner and Mordgrimm Records. The band followed up with a self-released three-song EP in February titled P/M. The unique metal hybridization of Scorn caught the attention of Relapse, who liked the record enough to sign the band and reissue the full-length in the summer 2013. Dubbed a, “totally malignant sounding record and one that will consume you whole if you’re not careful,” by Cvlt Nation and crowned the, “best worst thing that has ever happened to you,” in an 8/10 review from Metal Hammer, Scorn found PRIMITIVE MAN celebrating a slow-roasted apocalypse through seven suffocating hymns of hatred, disease, and sonic deviance. The record put the band on the proverbial map for many listeners, and enabled PRIMITIVE MAN to embark on a relentless touring schedule that would soon see the band playing live shows across the US, Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia in the company of such acts as Hexis, Reproacher, Fister, Celeste, Opium Lord, and Mammoth Grinder. PRIMITIVE MAN also played Denver Black Sky in 2013 alongside Relapse brethren Dying Fetus, Exhumed, Skinless, Iron Reagan, Call Of The Void, and Weekend Nachos.

All of guitarist/vocalist Ethan McCarthy’s projects have been prolific, and PRIMITIVE MAN is no exception – the band released four splits between 2013 and 2015, and dropped another bombshell of nihility in 2015 with its Relapse EP Home Is Where The Hatred Is. The EP was well-received by publications including Metal Injection, MetalSucks, Revolver, and Exclaim!, the latter of which stated, “unapologetically bleak and permeated by loathing and hostility, Home Is Where The Hatred Is will either leave you wanting more or contemplating teetering off a ledge.”

Despite their primeval, bludgeoning approach, PRIMITIVE MAN wouldn’t exist without their savage awareness of modern humanity: simultaneously old and new, atavistic and groundbreaking, PRIMITIVE MAN stands to redefine current conceptions of hope, faith, and metal music. Years of writing on tour and the addition of drummer Joe Linden sparked a black flame in PRIMITIVE MANmolding the band’s second full-length offering, Caustic set for release this fall via Relapse Records.

Elder Druid – Carmina Satanae LP Review

Northern Ireland Based Elder Druid Release Debut Album ‘Carmina Satanae’

I’ve been hearing a lot of things about Belfast based Elder Druid over the last twelve months. People I respect were hyping this band in a big way! As I’ve yet to witness them in a live setting or really hear anything outside a couple of tracks before I received their album to review, I can now see why they are so highly regarded and rated highly within the Irish scene.

They’ve been gigging heavily since their formation in 2015 and the signs are firmly there to see after listening to this their debut album. This is top class Doom/Sludge metal with Fuzz influences also in there.

Throughout the eight tracks on this album, I never once considered skipping a track. It’s solid Doom/Sludge metal start to finish! I don’t have a particular track I liked more than others either. Every song on this release is very good.

Considering these lads are still very young and growing as musicians, the potential for this band is massive!

The band have previously released an official video for their track ‘Witchdoctor’ which we have posted here. The band also premiered the album on ‘Doomed & Stoned’ which is arguably the biggest doom metal source in the world, which we shall link below if you like what you hear.

A band with a massive future and easily one of the best in this country in their particular genre!

ARKAIK Unveils “Order Of The Hierogon” (Featuring Psycroptic’s Joe Haley); Fifth Album ‘Nemethia’ Released Via Unique Leader

ARKAIK have proven yet again that they are masters of their craft, conjuring up a peerless display of fearlessly ingenuitive death metal which will leave a lot of listeners lost for words.” — Distorted Sound

September 29th saw the release of ARKAIK‘s anxiously-awaited fifth full-length Nemethia. In advance of its release, the brutal tech-death outfit unveiled Order Of The Hierogon” for public feasting.

Comments the band of the consuming, near-ten-minute track, “We really wanted to push our writing with this one, try some new things and challenge ourselves into making a massive track that explores the spectrum of our sound all in one song. We had the rare opportunity to work with Joe Haley from Psycroptic on a tasty guest solo and it came out better than we could have imagined.

As for the concept of the song as it relates to the story, Cyrix stumbles into a hidden territory called The City Of Secrets. He is introduced to a banished order of outsiders, mystics, sages, psychic warriors, historians, and oracles that preserve the lineage of knowledge contained within the ‘Order Of The Hierogon.’ Once welcomed into the inner circle of this mysterious group who seemed to have foreknowledge of his arrival, Cyrix is bestowed with mental and physical tools and training to make his passage through the Nexion Stargate, which takes place at the end of the album.

We created the word ‘Hierogon’ to describe a mystical navigation device that Cyrix inherits from his new allies. It is the ‘holy grail’ of the order. The ARKAIK symbol you see in the beginning of this video is a visual representation of the Hierogon.”

Nemethia was released on CD and digital formats on September 29th via Unique Leader Records; find the album including merch bundles and more at THIS LOCATION. For digital orders go to THIS LOCATION.

Their fourth full length for Unique Leader and most ambitious studio album to date, Nemethia was produced, engineered, and mixed by Zack Ohren (Immolation, Fallujah, Suffocation, Decrepit Birth et al.) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California, and features guest appearances by Joe Haley of Psycroptic, Arde Ostowari formerly of Burning The Masses, Stephen Paulson of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and former ARKAIK guitarist Craig Peters, as well as Gabe Seeber from The Kennedy Veil and Decrepit Birth (live) performing drums for the entire album. The cover art and booklet was designed by visionary artist Tyler Space, who worked with the band on their previous release, Lucid Dawn.

ARKAIK has been crafting a series of wildly psychedelic concept albums revolving around a protagonist named Cyrix, a disillusioned character in a dystopian society. Cyrix’ latest journey introduces new characters and brings you into a world of dark occultists, magical allies, and hidden forces. From resurrecting ancient goddesses to cracking the codes of reality and activating hyper dimensional stargates, the chronicle of Cyrix continues.
