Whenever CORROSION OF CONFORMITY releases a new album, folks take notice. But their latest is a true event. It’s been a dozen years since CORROSION OF CONFORMITY recorded new material with vocalist/guitarist Pepper Keenan at the helm. In that time, there have been rumors, whispers, and outright allegations that the legendary Southern rock outfit would reunite to blow the doors off the whole damn scene again. In 2014, after nearly a straight decade traversing the globe as a guitarist with New Orleans supergroup Down, Keenan reconnected with the core CORROSION OF CONFORMITY trio of Woody Weatherman, Mike Dean, and Reed Mullin to hit the road hard. “Reed called me and mentioned maybe playing a couple shows,” Keenan recalls. “I said, ‘Let’s just go to Europe and see if it works.’ So we went to Europe and then ended up going back four times in one year… We toured for a year and then started tracking about ten or eleven months ago.”

And now, the long wait is over. CORROSION OF CONFORMITY returns with No Cross No Crown — an album that somehow sounds as though no time has passed between 2005’s In The Arms Of Godand today.

Recording in North Carolina with longtime producer John Custer, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY cut No Cross No Crown in about forty days over the course of a year. “We took our time and didn’t put any pressure on ourselves,” Keenan says. “I’d go up from New Orleans and we’d do four or five days at a time, just hacking away at it. It was fun because we did it like a demo, but in a studio. We were writing and putting it on tape at the same time. We took what parts we thought were great from the old days and weren’t scared to go backwards. It kinda wrote itself that way.”

Some of these new jams sound like could’ve easily been on Wiseblood or Deliverance, two of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY‘s most revered records. On No Cross No Crown, beefy Southern stompers like “The Luddite,” “Little Man,” and “Forgive Me” are interspersed with melancholy guitar interludes like “No Cross,” “Matre’s Diem,” and “Sacred Isolation” — just like Sabbath used to do in the ’70s. “We started doing that on Deliverance,” Keenan points out. “My theory on that is that if you’re trying to make a record flow, you need to break it up a little. When you need a breather, write an interlude. I like writing those mellow pieces just to space things out and make the next thing come in heavier.”

The album’s iconic title comes from a recent tour stop in England. “We were playing this old church from like the 1500s that had been turned into a performing arts center,” Keenan recalls. “The dressing room had stained glass windows and one of them showed this poor fella being persecuted. Underneath it said, ‘no cross no crown.’ So I just took that idea. We’re not trying to be on a soapbox, but we used it as a catalyst to write songs around.”

Which is to say that No Cross No Crown has a lot less to do with politics or religion than its title implies. “I think everyone needs to get away from that mindset in general,” Keenan offers. “It just seems to be a mess out there nowadays. We need to get back to being humans and taking care of each other and simple things like that. For us, the terminology ‘no cross no crown’ is a theme. It’s mentioned in like three songs throughout the album. We just weaved it through as we went.”

No Cross No Crown stands as irrefutable proof of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY‘s ability to overcome. “CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and the prior records I’ve done with them didn’t just go away,” Keenan observes. “It’s an honor to be back out there and have an opportunity to do it again in a real way and not some washed-up reunion thing. Even before we wrote the record, we were out there for a year seeing there was a demand for it and that there was a void that we could fill. That’s been CORROSION OF CONFORMITY‘s deal from day one. We’re not chasing anybody around. We’re not gonna worry about what the new trends are. CORROSION OF CONFORMITY is CORROSION OF CONFORMITY.”

No Cross No Crown will be released via Nuclear Blast Entertainment worldwide on January 12th, 2018 on CD, digital, vinyl, and cassette formats. Various preorder bundles are currently available at THIS LOCATION.

EP Stream Exclusive: Self Titled Debut EP From Dublin Based Progressive Metal Band ‘Sectile’

Sectile, a five-piece progressive metal band from Dublin, Ireland, and today we exclusively stream their eagerly awaited debut release.  The EP will be independently launched on the 10th of November and made available on all online platforms as well as limited-edition physical copies.

The 4-song EP contains some of the band’s earliest compositions – including their signature live track ‘A Fool’s Reward’, previously released ‘Invisible Threads’ the catchy riff-driven ‘Silver Moon’, and the melodically-driven crescendo of ‘Comes With The Rain’.

The album artwork is an original illustration by the band’s singer Gabriel Gaba, showing a modernised take on the Roman ‘opus sectile’ mosaic piece ‘Tigress attacking a calf (325–350 AD)’ which inspired the band’s name.

Sectile came into the Dublin scene early 2017, playing their second-ever gig in the Irish edition of the ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ battle of the bands which awards a set at Bloodstock Festival in the UK. Seemingly from out of nowhere the band made it to the final, receiving abundantly positive reviews in the process. With this first studio release, Sectile plans to build a strong foundation looking ahead to 2018.

Check it out here in full. It’s a truly excellent EP and among the finest releases in Prog metal this year!

Sectile are a five-piece progressive metal band from Dublin, Ireland. Drawing inspiration from a medley of different musical backgrounds, the classics up to contemporary metal, they are wholly committed to their songwriting craft: from light to dark, the band revels in every part of the spectrum, seamlessly alternating between soaring soundscapes, heavy ear-worms, to hard-hitting riffage.

The band was officially formed in November 2016 but it started a few months prior as an online collaboration between Mark O’Reilly (guitar), Cormac Hennigan (bass) and singer / lyricist Gabriel Gaba, whom they found online. Before long the trio realised that the affinity of their collective musical interest was not to be taken lightly. After recruiting Zachary Newman for drum duties the project gained a life of its own and evolved into an ambitious soon-to-be live band. Second axeman Michael Sheridan joined the group in 2017 after a few line-up changes.

Sectile’s prologue quickly became intertwined with the Irish edition of the ‘Metal 2 The Masses’, as decisions upon the band’s name, the recording and launch of their first demo song ‘A Fool’s Reward’ were motivated by the event’s sign-up deadline. The band played their first gig in the legendary Dublin metal bar, Fibber Magees, on a Thursday night. Ten days later, their second-ever gig in M2TM. From seemingly out of nowhere the band made it to the final, receiving abundantly positive reviews in the process.

Sectile spent a good part of 2017 recording their self-titled 4-song debut EP, to be launched one year after the band’s officially announced their existence. With this first studio release, Sectile plans to build a strong foundation looking ahead to 2018.

Current line-up:
Mark O’Reilly – Guitar
Cormac Hennigan – Bass
Gabriel Gaba – Vocals
Zachary Newman – Drums
Michael Sheridan – Guitar

SIGNS OF THE SWARM: The Disfigurement Of Existence From Pittsburgh Death Legion Out Now Via Unique Leader. Stream In Full Within

“…a record that tears away with absolute carnage and raw brutality…” — Metal Injection

The Disfigurement Of Existence full-length from Pittsburgh death legion SIGNS OF THE SWARM is out now via Unique Leader.

Order bundles are available at THIS LOCATION. For digital orders, point your browser HERE

In an 8.5/10 review, Metal Injection lauds, “a truly awesome record,” furthering, “It’s a proven testament that musicians can take the deathcore formula and give it a fresh spin. Each track comes with its own individuality, balancing a range of sound and style that keeps the album progressing at an ever building bedlam. By presenting hellish gutturals and screams, along with vicious instrumentation, SIGNS OF THE SWARM can be proud knowing they’ve created a record that tears away with absolute carnage and raw brutality.” Of the track “Final Phase,” featuring Dickie Allen of Abiotic and Infant Annihilator, Decibel hails, “super-low gutturals, huge-sounding riffs, and a spine-crushing rhythm section.” In a perfect 10/10 rating, New Transcendence writes, “The Disfigurement Of Existence takes everything you think you know about heavy music and disfigures it, leaving the listener with one of the finest displays of slam-tinted, technical and brutal deathcore ever created.” Adds Metal Nexus, “The Disfigurement Of Existence is going to change the way you look at deathcore… They have perfected the slamming aspect and combined it with the best sides of deathcore with breakdowns, melodic riffs, and filthy vocal techniques. There a lot of bands but none are like SIGNS OF THE SWARM.”

The Disfigurement Of Existence‘s ten tracks were mixed and mastered by Phil Pluskota (Abiotic, King Conquer) of Sonic Assult Studios in Cape Corral, Florida and comes swathed in the cover renderings of Par Olaffson (Aborted, Abysmal Dawn, Revocation, Immolation et al).

Said SIGNS OF THE SWARM vocalist CJ McCreery, “Our first album Senseless Order was mainly to get the point across that we know how to bring the heavy. A lot of the songs were fairly slow and nothing really stood out as far as appealing to anyone more than the standard ‘deathcore’ fan base. For The Disfigurement Of Existence, we all dove into our own craft and stepped our game up  one-hundred-percent individually to really bring this album together and be more than just a standard ‘deathcore’ band. We got our new guitarist (Jacob Toy) and drummer (Jimmy Pino) right when we started the writing process for The Disfigurement Of Existence and immediately realized that all of our minds working together could make an absolutely insane album, and I feel like we accomplished that goal. The guitar riffs are way more intricate, Jimmy’s drumming is fucking batshit crazy, and I made sure to really step it up vocally and lyrically. An unbelievable amount of work, sweat, and tears and probably blood at some point too went into this album and we are so excited to finally release it to everyone and show what we are now capable of.”
