Hiidenhauta Release New Single/Video ‘Lettorikko’ New LP ‘Riivin’ Out September 18th

Finnish folk-influenced black metal band Hiidenhauta are set to release their third studio album ‘Riivin’ on September 18th 2020 via Inverse Records. Their new single and music video ‘Lettorikko’ was released today.

Such an incident once happened in Pielavesi; A few peasants hanged themselves in the middle of haymaking season, so at the same time from day to day such a miracle happened in the hay meadow that the wind took all the hay from two haystacks as it went. They rose so high that they were not visible at all after that. This left the impression in the meadow that at that windswept the devil went with his prey. In the gust, people believe that the souls of people who leave the world through suicide are flying.-Pielavesi, Finland

Singer-lyricist Tuomas says:“Lettorikko was one of the last songs on the album, composed by our bassist Henri. I had written various stories about the Devil in Finnish folklore for the other band members to see, from which Henri found this story told in Pielavesi about the peasants hanging themselves. Inspired by the story, the song was born pretty quickly and was immediately in its almost final form. I immediately began to write a text for the composition, which was also surprisingly effortless, as were the song melodies composed after the text. This song has perhaps the most folk spirit that the new album has more of, especially in Emma’s vocals, but also more natural than before. Lettorikko was easy to choose as the video and the single track: it has a lot of everything you can find on the album. Jerkka Perälä was chosen as the author of Lettorikko’s lyric video, who made a lyrical video for the song Hallan valta in connection with the last album. Jerkka had a very similar idea of the visuality of the song, which I had, so working and agreeing on the content of the video was very effortless. The video materials were filmed in the village of Anola, Nakkila.”

Hiidenhauta’s third album, “Riivin”, is most easily labeled as folk-influenced black metal, but above all it is a balanced ensemble of Finnish Devil which represents both humanity, mischief, but also an eternal will of revenge for those who do wrong. This album exudes the band’s ability to regenerate and transform. Once again, Hiidenhauta is like a story they created: earthy, raw, angry, but also sounding like the endless beauty of nature. On the record, the band takes another real leap into a new area where it tears and breaks, and just when it’s used to be still, it leaves again and looks for new trails to carry.

This new single takes place towards the end of the album and it’s about the moment that 343 realises “…he is now completely at the mercy of what holds him, he finally loses all hope and gives in to his fate, knowing that the curiosity and creativity of humanity has damned him and many others to bring to life a machine that will one day take over for good.

DOWN Celebrate Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Of NOLA Full-Length With Exclusive Livestream August 29th

This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of DOWN’s 1995-released, now classic debut, NOLA. Plans for select shows featuring vocalist Philip Anselmo, guitarists Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower, and bassist Pat Bruders performing the record in its entirety were sidelined due to the global pandemic. In its wake, the band is pleased to announce an exclusive livestream later this month!  Fittingly dubbed The Quarter Century Throwdown, the high production, multi-camera event will take place August 29th at 6:00pm EST using cutting-edge streaming technology to create a one-of-a-kind virtual concert experience. The show will be rebroadcast August 30th at 6:00pm EST until September 1st at 6:00pm EST.
Comments the band, “DOWN was a simple band started by friends with a love of heavy music and the songs on the NOLA album were magic from the first rehearsal. We’re extremely grateful to be celebrating the NOLA record with a live stream that the world can see. Watch the show and plug in through your loudest stereo! We love y’all!”

Livestream tickets and packages are available at THIS LOCATION with additional merch designs available HERE

10% of ticket sales will be donated to the United Houma Nation (UHN), a state-recognized tribe of approximately 17,000 members residing within a six-parish (county) service area encompassing 4,570 square miles. The six parishes — Terrebonne, Lafourche, Jefferson, St. Mary, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines — are located along the Southeastern coast of Louisiana. Within this area, distinct tribal communities are situated among the interwoven bayous and canals where Houmas traditionally earned a living. Although by land and road these communities are distant, they were historically very close by water. However, boat travel is no longer a viable option due to the effects of coastal erosion, which has left these waterways either nonexistent or impassable and, in many cases, completely open water that requires larger vessels for safe travel. The tribe today is presented with the unique challenges of preserving and maintaining its culture and way of life when the land is disappearing. The United Houma Nation is committed and dedicated to doing exactly that.

In addition, 10% of proceeds raised from a special, limited DOWN/United Houma Nation t-shirt will also be donated to the UHN. For preorders, go to THIS LOCATION

With a collective resume encompassing Pantera, Corrosion Of Conformity, Crowbar, EyeHateGod, and so many others, DOWN puffed out its first haze of sonic smoke from the belly of gritty old New Orleans in September of 1995 with the release of NOLA. At that moment, they instinctively summoned something akin to a ritual. The record was largely credited with introducing the sound of underground New Orleans metal – “slow, super-heavy, doomsday guitar riffs stamped with Anselmo’s trademark bellow,” as described by NOLA.com / The Times-Picayune – to a worldwide audience. By October of 1995, NOLA peaked at number 57 on the Billboard 200 and remained on the chart for six straight weeks. The album spawned four singles: “Stone The Crow,” “Lifer,” “Temptation’s Wings,” and “Bury Me in Smoke.” “Stone The Crow” would move on to achieve commercial success when it reached number 40 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, becoming DOWN’s first top 40 song. Twenty-five years later, there’s still no mistaking those gargantuan riffs, swamp blues leads, crashing drums, and hypnotic howls for absolutely anybody else under the sun.

ASTRALIST Release First Self Titled Four Track Demo EP

ASTRALIST are a new project that was born in Lockdown by Ciaran Coghlan also of Coroza.
As of now it’s just him but there are plans for this project. After listening to it in full I’m delighted there’s further plans on the horizon as this is an excellent EP!

He said:

The initial idea was to put together a band, but I decided to put some full tracks together myself during the pandemic lockdown. Sub-genres were not on my mind when creating this, so it does fall under various parts of the “doom” umbrella.

Anyway, thanks for checking it out. All of your support is greatly appreciated.

– Ciaran Coghlan

Lets hope this all comes together now and they can bring this to the live circuit next year. Real potential here!
One to most certainly watch!
