Scour Release The Black EP

Scour Release The Black EP

The Black EP from SCOUR, the extreme metal unit featuring Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, En Minor, et al), John Jarvis (Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Derek Engemann (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals), Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index), and Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Lock Up).

Mixed and mastered by Ryan Vincent at Apollo Audio Alternative with vocals and drums engineered by Stephen “Big Fella” Berrigan (Down, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Eyehategod), the EP includes guest appearances from Erik Rutan of Hate Eternal, Pat O’Brien of Cannibal Corpse, and actor Jason Momoa (Dune, Game Of Thrones, Aquaman, et al) and serves as the final installment of the band’s EP trilogy.

SCOUR made their debut with their ferocious first single “Dispatched.” The Grey EP, released via Anselmo’s own Housecore Records, dropped in 2016, followed by The Red EP in 2017. Faster, tighter, and more relentless than ever before, this year’s The Black is inarguably the band’s most savage effort to date.

SCOUR‘s The Black EP is available on CD, LP, cassette, and digital formats via Housecore Records in North America and Nuclear Blast Entertainment internationally. Find order options at the SCOUR Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION, the Housecore Store HERE and Nuclear Blast HERE.

SCOUR derives its sound from an intentional minimalist approach. Displaying an emphasis on cohesive song writing and direct composition ideas, exhibited through relentless battery, the band brims with creepy and ominous hooks, dark and macabre vocals, blasting drums, and buzzsaw guitars to get straight to the point. Drawing influences from all extreme entities, SCOUR itself continues to pay homage to some of metal’s most prominent acts as can be heard with the 2019 release of their cover of Bathory’s “Massacre.”

In its short existence, the band has graced the stages of many of the major players in both the mainstream and metal-oriented music festival circuits including Roskilde, Hellfest, Tecate Metal Festival, Maryland Deathfest, and more. As the lineage of its membership suggests, SCOUR continues to be a proverbial force with which to be reckoned both on the stage and in the studio.

Ward XVI Unleash Metamorphosis LP

Ward XVI Unleash Metamorphosis LP

Deep inside the walls of Whittingham Asylum, a new inmate is tortured mercilessly at the hands of those who  keep her. Consumed by a ferocious rage, she succumbs to the comfort of insanity. What emerges from the  shadows is more evil and profane than any of her tormentors could have imagined…

‘Metamorphosis’ challenges everything you think you know about the notorious fiend, Psychoberrie. Travel  back to the very beginning and ask yourself: is evil born, or made?

A mother’s love, formed in a haze of dolls and daisies, is blackened by merciless addiction. A little girl seeks  protection from the broken and abandoned, anything to quell the monster that comes at night. Corrupted by  unspeakable cruelty, pious innocence undergoes a malevolent transformation. Experience the elation of a first  kill and the debauchery that ensues, culminating in a desperate run from the law.

Dare you enter Ward XVI, maximum-security for the mentally deranged? Once more, the gates of Whittingham Asylum have been cast open.
Freaks and outcasts, oddballs and inbreds – all are welcome.

Took me a while but I finally got to listen to this album in its entirety. To sum it up. It’s easily one of the most interesting and entertaining albums I have heard this year. It’s just so different from everything else and in an age where originality is uncommon this band have it in spades!
It won’t be for eveyone, but those that get it just love it!
Utterly brilliant album from an extremely underrated band that should be a lot bigger than they are!

Nicolas Cage Fighter Release New Video/Single Dead Ends

NICOLAS CAGE FIGHTER are back, and much like a mash-up of the marvellously over-the-top actor’s antics and a brutal, no-holds-barred steel cage match, you never know what to expect from the band from Ballarat, Victoria. Today they announce the release of their new single ‘Dead Ends’, which is from a forthcoming EP ‘Cast You Out’, which will be released in the first quarter of 2021.

Dead Ends Was released today and can be streamed in full here:

Nick Moriarty, vocalist for the band, said that this song “…talks about declaring a change, thus creating a turning point in life for the better. This song follows on from earlier tracks Black Jackal and Devil’s Head which highlight negative symptoms and effects of a poor headspace. Dead ends is a song we wrote as an anthem of self-determination.”

“Lyrically, it reiterates the theme of the record which is a journey of improving one’s mental health. Self-awareness throughout is an important factor of any recovery, it starts with realising you’re the only one who’s capable of creating change for the better. The lyrics show that by recognising the external and internal negativity, continuing along that path is nothing but detrimental.

This song represents the pivotal moment in the narrative where affirmative actions are taken; such cutting loose the dead weight, shifting out of a negative attitude, and therefore avoiding the spiral towards “Dead Ends”.

‘Black Jackal’ and ‘Devil’s Head’ have been released already from the EP and can be streamed in full here:

SCOUR Release New Video/Single Propaganda From Their Forthcoming The Black EP

Extreme metal practitioners SCOUR have unleashed a new single “Propaganda.” The vicious track comes by way of the band’s long-anticipated The Black EP, set for release on Black Friday, November 27th.

SCOUR — featuring Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, En Minor, et al), John Jarvis (Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Derek Engemann (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals), Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index), and Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Lock Up) — made their debut with their ferocious first single “Dispatched.” The Grey EP, released via Anselmo’s own Housecore Records, dropped in 2016, followed by The Red EP in 2017. Faster, tighter, and more relentless than ever before, this year’s The Black serves as the final release of the EP trilogy and is inarguably the band’s most savage effort to date.

Comments Anselmo of the latest track available for public feasting, “We’ve all been inundated with propaganda over our entire lifetimes. The modern day is no different, and this song drives the point home. If I were to take a song like ‘5 Minutes Alone’ and cut it with clips of Steve Martin and Cheech & Chong, it would make about as much sense as the SCOUR ‘Propaganda’ video. A couple all time favorites, Boris Karloff and Vincent Price, can be seen in clips from some notable horror films.”
Adds Engemann, “Our second offering from The Black EP, ‘Propaganda’ delivers an unapologetic beating of the senses.”

The Black was mixed and mastered by Ryan Vincent at Apollo Audio Alternative with vocals and drums engineered by Stephen “Big Fella” Berrigan (Down, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Eyehategod). The EP includes guest appearances from Erik Rutan of Hate Eternal, Pat O’Brien of Cannibal Corpse, and actor Jason Momoa (DuneGame Of ThronesAquaman, et al).

Review: Magnetic Monopole Self-titled Debut is Groovy with Doomsday Atmosphere

Magnetic Monopole is a Mayo-based metal band playing slower and heavier metal, melodic yet inviting the doomsday feeling all the way through – groovy metal that sounds too good for gloomy days.

Magnetic Monopole released their debut, self-titled EP Magnetic Monopole, on Friday 6th November 2020, enlisting four tracks that sounds way too good for gloomy days. The EP is available on digital and CD from Magnetic Monopole Bandcamp page[1]

The EP is opened by the catchy riffs and melody of Flashback. Spite as the next track introduces a heavy bassline followed by pick scrapping guitar sound that welcomes a steady drum laying the ground for the guitar pair to fill a darker ambiance. While Spite is a personal favorite, the next two are just as good if not better.

The third track No Place To Go official video [2] premiered on the 3rd November, featuring vintage style video of nature, human and evolution clips. The song encapsulates a tamed aggression in a beautiful sounding doomsday atmosphere and a harmonious vocal towards the end. Lastly, the faster and tightly rhythmed Downpour closed with a shiny guitar solo and a midway slow down, that reminds you of the old school thrash breakdown. All the four tracks are equally heavy but uniquely stand out to their own premise.

Magnetic Monopole played their first gig in October 2019 after forming earlier the same year by Ismael (guitar/vocal), Sid (bass/backing vocal) and Conor (drum) situated near the border of Mayo and Sligo. Having spent years playing heavy music in Ireland with their other bands Ballina’s hard rock and punk Tension Head and Shithatt respectively, the three pieces found their new sound under the name Magnetic Monopole.

The recording and mixing of this EP was done by Conor Hickey and took place in Ballina Punx HQ between Ireland’s lockdown period in 2020. The mastering is done by Julian Lynagh. Ballina based label Wahshtuff Records released the EP and there are bonus live tracks available only on the CD that uses mostly recycled materials for its cover and sleeve and they are made by hand.

Magnetic Monopole offers melodic, doomsday groovy metal that is good for any day. Alongside Mayo’s metal bands like On Pain Of Death, Reborn and Tension Head, Magnetic Monopole adds to heavy noises for Irish metal scene.
